The Canmore Folk Music Festival returns August 1–3, 2026, bringing three full days of folk, roots, blues, bluegrass, alt-country and world music to the centre of town.

The 2026 festival is the 49th edition of an Alberta institution. The official festival describes itself as Alberta's longest-running music festival, but longevity is only part of its appeal.
The main-stage concerts are the anchor. The workshops are where the festival becomes something more interesting.
At a folk-festival workshop, several artists share a stage around a theme rather than simply repeating their regular sets. That can lead to unexpected collaborations, stories and songs that will not happen again in quite the same way. If this is your first Canmore Folk Fest, choose the performers you most want to see—but leave room to wander into a workshop you know nothing about.
The programme extends beyond Centennial Park, too. The Mountain FM Pub Stage at the Canmore Miners' Union Hall offers a smaller-room experience within walking distance of the main grounds.

The free Festival Friday programme runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on July 31. The official programme lists an opening circle with Mini Hrpa at 6 p.m., Sandy LeCour & Friends at 7 p.m. and Cousin Harley at 8 p.m., plus a satellite-stage performance by Brianna Lizotte in town.

Yes. The Little Folkies Area is more than a place to wait between adult performances. It has its own full programme of crafts, movement, music, theatre, circus and hands-on activities.
Across the weekend, the published programme includes kids' yoga, instrument making, bubble making, a scavenger hunt, Farmer Joe, circus performance, friendship bracelets and a Canmore Theatre School presentation inspired by Mary Poppins. Crafts and other activities run throughout each day.
For families with babies or very young children, the Mountain Littles quiet area includes a private nursing and feeding space, a change station and a safe play area.

Canmore is exceptionally busy over the August long weekend. The festival itself recommends walking, cycling or using transit whenever possible.
Roam Transit routes 5T and 5C are free within Canmore. The festival also provides secure, attended bicycle parking behind Lawrence Grassi Middle School. Bring your own bike lock for added security.
The Folk Fest Express runs from the Crowfoot LRT station park-and-ride to Lawrence Grassi Middle School at 610 7 Avenue. The published fare is $35 round trip, with an 8:30 a.m. departure from Calgary. Return buses leave Canmore after the evening programme.

Parking in and around downtown Canmore is limited and much of it is paid. Use only appropriately marked spaces, allow extra time and never block a residential driveway. Once parked, Canmore is easiest to enjoy on foot.
